By Life on Tobacco Road- Mention the NBA’s Age Limit, or the prevalence of one-and-done college basketball players that the rule created, and you are generally assured of getting one of the following three responses: 1) “that’s so unfair to those players….they should be able to earn a living,” 2) “It be great if they changed it to _____ so these kids would stay in school longer…” or 3) ******* Calipari.” All three of these responses denote a negative sentiment around a rule that forces the best young basketball talent to spend a year representing college teams around the country instead of turning pro and earning the kind of money that you and I will never see.[i] So that begs the question; is one-and-done a good or bad thing for college basketball? Well, let’s address these three general criticisms.
