Yesterday stung. We were one win away from another Sweet 16 appearance. We just couldn't pull it out. We can play the "What If" game, we can blame, but in the end, the Huskies lost to a better team yesterday. JaJuan Johnson is one hell of a player, whether we'd like to admit it or not.
Either way, UConn is going to have its hands full against a well balanced and solid Purdue team. It's going to take awhile to move on after yesterday's game. But it will eventually settle. Think about this though. At the start of the season, did you expect the Huskies to finish 1st in the Pac-10 and then get a #4 seed in the NCAA tournament?
I didn't.
And I don't think a lot of those so called "experts" believed the Huskies would be as good as they were this year. It was a freaking joy to watch this basketball team. They won games in an exciting manner, we saw the poise of a veteran (Jon Brockman), we saw the hungriness of a Senior in his last season (Dentmon), we saw the rise of a star (I.T), and we saw the makings of a super star (Pondexter).
We were treated to a basketball team that never gave up. After losing games to Portland, Kansas, and Florida, most people thought this team was done for. They proved otherwise, and dominated in Pac-10 conference play. This team was always hungry and they weren't going to go down without a fight.
You saw that in yesterday's game. After watching this team so much this season, I actually expected a comeback, I mean, this team wasn't gonna leave the tournament like that. They were relentless in their comeback and they were so close to victory.
It's going to take awhile to get over this, but next season will be fun. Very fun. I'm going to miss Husky basketball. Now I'm just going to start cheering for that other college in Washington that is pretty decent at basketball. Maybe that team will make some noise in this tournament....
