Charles Odum hit a contested jumper in the lane with 2 seconds left in overtime, propelling Portland State to a 78-76 victory over Eastern Washington Saturday night.
Odum finished with 20 points and Chehalis Tapscott added 16 with 13 rebounds for the Vikings (10-9, 4-3 Big Sky). Collin Chiverton scored 22 points and Tremayne Johnson added 20 for the Eagles (9-11, 3-4).
After McMullan's two foul shots pushed Portland State's lead to 76-73 with 40 seconds remaining, Chiverton answered for Eastern Washington, banking in a 3-pointer with 32 seconds left.
Both teams had chances to win at the end of regulation. With Portland State trailing 64-61, McMullan was fouled as he hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 9.8 seconds left, but he missed the ensuing foul shot that would have given the Vikings a one-point lead. Johnson missed a shot in the lane in the final seconds for Eastern Washington.
