(Credit: Sam Roberts) In the opening game of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Tournament, a strange, final 4.7 seconds resulted in Charlotte emerging victorious in a game where they seemed destined for defeat. Here’s what you need to know about the game.  Charlotte pounded Richmond on the boards, but Richmond committed just three turnovers to stay in it.  Any other recap material you’re looking for… you won’t find it here. ——- That’s because the story of this game was the final 4.7 seconds.  With Charlotte trailing by three, Richmond wisely fouled guard Pierria Henry prior to him being able to attempt a game-tying three.  Henry stepped to the line, making the first free throw of a 1-and-1. It was a box out situation and – as/after the first shot went through, contacted occurred between Derrick Williams and Charlotte freshman Willie Clayton, with Clayton hitting the floor on what appeared to be a push. Immediately, Williams was whistled for a technical foul.  Richmond Coach Chris Mooney was irate. Henry (71% FT) stepped to the line and made the second shot of his 1-and-1.  He then sank two technical FTs, giving Charlotte a one-point lead with, still, 4.7 to play. On the ensuing play, Richmond attempted to foul Henry on the floor, but officials determined that Henry hoisted up a three and awarded him three shots.  Mooney was whistled for two technical fouls and tossed from the game, Henry shot four more FTs, and Charlotte turned a 63-60 deficit into a 68-63 win in 4.7 seconds. * Our quick take: On initial foul by Williams, proper call should have been to call a foul, then consult the monitor to determine whether the foul was a dead ball foul and whether it was therefore a technical (resulting in two shots of a player of Charlotte’s choice… Henry) or, if the foul occurred as not in dead-ball situation, and was likely a flagrant 1 which would’ve resulted in Willie Clayton, a 50% FT shooter, shooting. * From that point forward and culminating with the foul of Henry on his three-point attempt… the normally reserved and even-keeled Mooney was incensed. UPDATE:  Replays showed that the foul did not occur in a dead-ball situation. Charlotte moves on to face top-seeded Saint Louis on Friday.     Related Posts:Experience follows youth as Niners shade DavidsonUndefeated Niners’ growth continues in win over…“Havoc” is a way of life – physically and…49ers mark their space in balanced A-10 title raceJust call him DWill
