kuathletics.com Ben McLemore’s former AAU basketball coach, Darius Cobb, said he took two separate installments of $5,000 from the CEO of a sports mentoring organization as payment to “steer” the Jayhawks guard to the NBA over returning for another year at KU. USA Today released a report detailing the allegations late last night. Cobb claims the man, named Rodney Blackstock, also covered all-expenses paid trips to Los Angeles for himself and Richard Boyd, a cousin of McLemore’s, in which they met up with sports agents who intended to represent the star player. Boyd denied the allegations. Kansas Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger released a statement last night in response: “Late this afternoon we received an inquiry regarding the relationship between the family of Ben McLemore and a third party, Rodney Blackstock. This was the first time this inquiry had been presented to us. In accordance with the conditions and obligations of its membership in the NCAA and the Big 12 Conference, the University of Kansas will review the information and process it with both of those entities if necessary. We are not in a position to comment further at this time.” It remains to be seen if Kansas had any knowledge of the situation before the report.
