Former University of Illinois basketball player Jereme Richmond was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and threatening her with a gun, the Daily Herald reported Tuesday. According to the report, Richmond, 19, had been dating the 17-year-old victim in recent weeks. Richmond and a 22-year-old man were arrested Monday afternoon when police responded to the victim's house and found a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol in the car the two men were traveling in. Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Stephen Scheller said Richmond had first argued with the woman Sunday at his residence when she arrived to retrieve her cell phone. He is accused of shoving her into her car. The next day, according to Scheller, Richmond and the other man showed up at the woman's house, and the second altercation occurred, with Richmond allegedly spitting on the woman. Scheller said police arrived as Richmond had gone to his car to retrieve a gun after threatening to shoot the woman. Richmond, who declared for June's NBA Draft but was not selected, is reportedly being held on $100,000 bond and a court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 18. He is charged with aggravated battery for Sunday's altercation and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and battery in connection with Monday's incident. The six-foot-seven small forward was a highly rated prospect out of Waukegan, Illinois. He averaged 7.6 points, five rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 22.8 minutes for the Fighting Illini last season.
