A pair of Providence Friars are under investigation for sexual assault on the eve of the school playing in its first NCAA Tournament since 2004. This is according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.Freshman Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock were both suspended by head coach Ed Cooley in November for what the program explained at the time as "not upholding their responsibilities as student athletes." A month later, Providence announced that the suspension would last for the entire season. The report states that the alleged victim approached the Providence police department “a couple of weeks ago”, but that the incident itself occurred in November before the basketball season had started. It also states that the victim, who knew the players, went to campus police immediately after the alleged assault occurred. In a separate statement to the Journal,Ed Cooley said that he was "saddened" by the situation, but that he acted promptly "to suspend the two young men indefinitely for failing to meet the standards expected of student-athletes while the college's internal disciplinary process took place."Bullock remains a member of the team. However, Austin transferred to Oregon over the winter break. The latter is eligible to play for the Ducks in December. Both players were ranked as top 150 recruits.Via Hardball Talk
