The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has opened an investigation of men's basketball coach Brian Wardle after receiving a complaint of player mistreatment.
A complaint, filed Tuesday with the university, came from the parents of 7-foot-1 freshman center Ryan Bross. The Green Bay Press-Gazette, citing sources familiar with the complaint, indicated the accusation alleged verbal and emotional mistreatment by Wardle but not physical abuse.
"We're acting quickly," Wisconsin-Green Bay chancellor Thomas Harden told the Press-Gazette. "We're going to move assertively and bring this to a conclusion as fast as we can."
The complaint comes less than a week after Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice was fired when video evidence revealed he physically and verbally abused players. Harden told the Press-Gazette the Rutgers case had no bearing on his decision to investigate the complaint against Wardle.
