Even after coaching the U.S. Mens Olympic basketball team to its first back-to-back gold medals since 1996 and 2000, Mike Krzyzewski had always maintained that he would not stay on in for the 2016 Olympics. Dukes 66-year-old head coach said that before the 2012 Olympics, during the 2012 Olympics and even during Dukes basketball season this year. But USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo met with Krzyzewski in Las Vegas a few weeks ago, and whatever he said to Coack K must have worked. Former Blue Devil and current ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas tweeted as much on Tuesday morning: And then Sports Illustrateds Pete Thamel added this Tweet around noon: Multiple outlets began confirming those reports as the afternoon wore on, and then USA Basketball sent out an email announcing a press conference. It will feature Colangelo, the USA Basketball Chariman, and the USA Basketball head coach, who is referred to as TBA in the release. Of course, that press conference is at Duke. That, combined with all of these other reports, makes it seem likely Krzyzewski will be named head coach in 2016. Unless theyre throwing everyone a curveball and it will actually be assistant Steve Wojciechowski.
