Found December 28, 2010 on Storming the Floor:
No Reverse Survivor update last week. Two excuses:

1)My laptop died. Actually, the power cord had been fraying internally for quite some time, and finally broke completely. Sad day. But now I have myself a new machine and can get back to work.

2)Not a whole lot happened. Since we lost Toledo and Southeast Missouri State on December 11, just one school has dropped out of the race: Holy Cross, which beat Marist on the road, 75-57, on December 19. (While I'm sad that the Crusaders are gone, as their proximity to my home would've allowed me to see them live if they made a deep run, I have to be happy that they picked up a win.) Most teams had some sort of Christmas break as well, so it made sense to just wait another few days to catch things up.

Holy Cross's departure leaves us with just six winless teams remaining as we approach the new year: UMBC, Colgate, North Carolina-Greensboro, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Alcorn State, and Centenary. I just saw that Centenary is returning to Division III at the end of the academic year, making them the clear favorites, a reality that is backed up by Ken Pomeroy's numbers (see below).

UMBC Retrievers (0-12, America East)
Pomeroy: 337
RPI: 335
Chance of Winless Record: 2.26%

Colgate Raiders (0-10, Patriot League)
Pomeroy: 335
RPI: 334
Chance of Winless Record: 1.25%

North Carolina-Greensboro Spartans (0-11, Southern North)
Pomeroy: 300
RPI: 299
Chance of Winless Record: 0.19%

Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (0-11, Southwestern Athletic)
Pomeroy: 342
RPI: 279
Chance of Winless Record: 0.01%

Alcorn State Braves (0-9, Southwestern Athletic)
Pomeroy: 341
RPI: 253
Chance of Winless Record: 0.00%

Centenary Gentlemen (0-13, Summit)
Pomeroy: 345
RPI: 344
Chance of Winless Record: 55.44%

There's still a lot of basketball to be played, but keep an eye on January 17, when Arkansas-Pine Bluff visits Alcorn State. Chances are good that neither team will be winless at that point (Pine Bluff won its conference opener last season, and wins are much easier to come by within the SWAC than outside of it), but won't it be exciting if they are?

Also, keep your fingers crossed that UMBC's trip to New Hampshire on January 23 will mean something in the grand scheme of things.
