The Louisville basketball office informed media members yesterday evening that Rick Pitino would not be made available to take questions on Wednesday afternoon. Pitino was initially scheduled to have a press conference today, but it has been cancelled.  Instead, Pitino will speak to the media for a few minutes prior to his radio show tonight at Buffalo Wild Wings. This means that after a five overtime loss to Notre Dame on the road, Pitino has only spoke publicly for about 30-seconds. Instead of taking questions from the media on Saturday after the game, Pitino gave a very brief statement. Hearing Rick Pitino talk about the five overtime loss that we’d all like to forget about isn’t necessarily going to help anything. However, it’s part of his job and I think both the fans the media deserve to hear him speak in more depth about the game. Like I said, it really isn’t that big of a deal, but this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Over the years, Pitino has been ab...

Rick Pitino’s Recruiting Trip Didn’t Exactly Go As Planned

Rick Pitino was set to travel to Evansville, IN., tonight to see Jaquan Lyle, a 6-foot-5 190-pound combo guard from Bosse High School. Lyle has been one of Louisville’s top targets in the 2014 class for over a year. He has taken multiple unofficial visits to Louisville and has the Cards in his most recently updated list along with Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Georgetown, NC State...

Pitino Encouraging Three Players To Test The NBA Waters

On his radio show Wednesday night at Buffalo Wild Wings, Rick Pitino made a statement that seems to have caught a lot of people by surprise. Pitino said that after the season he will encourage juniors Russ Smith and Gorgui Dieng along with sophomore Chane Behanan to test the NBA waters. Pitino says he insists that all three players enter their name in the NBA draft to be evaluated...

In State Guard Receiving Interest From Louisville

Louisville’s 2013 recruiting class was thought to be complete after signing four players in September, but that hasn’t stopped Rick Pitino from continuing to evaluate the available talent in the class. Dominique Hawkins, a 6-foot point guard from Madison Central High School in Richmond, KY, is a name to keep an eye on. According to Steve Moss of WKYT, Rick Pitino is one of them...

Pitino looking for smarter play, seven wins

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino met with the media on Wednesday night prior to his radio show at Buffalo Wild Wings. Pitino was previewing Thursday’s game against St. John’s but – obviously – answered more question’s about last Saturday’s historic five-overtime loss at Notre Dame. Cardinal Authority was there with this story and video:

NBA would be a waste for Gorgui Dieng

Gorgui Dieng has said more than once that his primary objective at the University of Louisville is getting a college degree. The sheepskin is what his Mom and Dad want, too, first and foremost. Presumably within four years after enrollment and before he would even consider professional basketball. Now we get word, however, that Coach Rick Pitino wants Gorgui, along with Chane Behanan...

Is Louisville defending at a historic level?

Louisville has lost four of seven, and this has taken a lot of the focus off what was once the No. 1 team. What is being lost in the shuffle is that they're defending as well as anyone. We all knew that Pitino's defense was going to be good - they did have the best defensive efficiency in the nation last year - but I'm not sure we knew exactly how good. The Cardinals...

Pitino finally talks about Notre Dame

Took a few days for Rick Pitino to get fight through the pain of blowing six opportunities to put Notre Dame away. The goal now is for the University of Louisville to sweep the last seven basketball games. Video: Jody Demling.

Focus on Russ Smith a distraction

From all indications, Russ Smith isn’t comfortable as a team player. More comfortable in a lead role. Russ will continue to dazzle at times, scoring plenty of points, making awe-inspiring dunks, creating chaos for opposing guards on defense, with a few steals here and there, causing his fans to rant and rave. But he will also continue to be a ball hog, taking contested shots while...

The Rundown: St. John’s

Rick Pitino and the 12th ranked Louisville Cardinals will look to bounce back tonight from their five overtime loss to Notre Dame over the weekend as they host the St. John’s Red Storm. Louisville opened as a 19-point favorite, but that line has quickly dropped the 17. Louisville leads the all time series 10-4 and has won six of the last seven meetings between the two schools....

Morning After: U of L reaches 20 wins

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino said his goal was seven in a row heading into the Big East Tournament. The Cardinals picked up the first one on Thursday night, using a huge second half by Russ Smith to run past St. John’s 72-58 at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals now play at South Florida on Sunday. Here are a few thoughts on the win over the Red Storm:

Updated Louisville Football Roster

An updated Louisville football roster was published at GoCards.com earlier this afternoon. There aren’t a whole lot of surprises on the updated roster, but here are a few takeaways. I reported last month that running back Jeremy Wright was not expected to be back for his senior season. There still hasn’t’ been an official release about Wright, but he is no longer on the Louisville...

Cardinal PA announcer in the making

Dylan Diachenko, a three year old from Louisville, is already starting to interview for the Louisville Cardinals PA announcing job.  Watch and be amazed.

Spring Football is right around the corner.  With Louisville embarking on what could be an undefeated and potentially historic regular season, it’s never too early to look at the “Way Too Early Rankings” is it?  ESPN College Football Analyst Mark Schlaback released his second edition of his 2013 Way-Too-Early Preseason  Top 25 on Monday now that National Signing Day is complete and...
