Louisville lost its second straight tough game in a row on Tuesday night, this time at the hands of Villanova. Over the weekend, the Cardinals lost a tough home game to No. 6-ranked Syracuse. However, the Wildcats are a team they should have beaten. Had they been more successful from the charity stripe, Rick Pitino’s team may have come away with a win. Louisville hit only 12 of its 24 free throw attempts, and Pitino was livid about it after the game. So livid, in fact, that he decided to take it out on Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard. “It was really a simple answer to why we lost,” Pitino told reporters, via the Courier-Journal. “Basically we were Dwight Howard or Shaquille O’Neal. We came down we had a six-point lead and it could have been eight. Could have kept coming down and extending it but our free throws were a turnover. Very simple answer for why we lost. Our foul shooting was despicable.” The final score was 73-64, so obviously the free throws the Cardinals missed were c...

Rick Pitino Says He Was Devastated With Loss To Syracuse

Rick Pitino spoke with the media earlier this afternoon to briefly recap Louisville’s loss to Syracuse on Saturday and preview tomorrow’s match-up against Villanova. The media got much more of a reaction from Pitino today regarding Saturday’s loss. His post-game press conference on Saturday was brief and not very informative to say the least. I’ve not seen Pitino as upset...

Rick Pitino Says There Is No Great Team In College Basketball Right Now

There is more parody in college basketball this year than there has been in quite some time. A disappointing loss to Villanova may have had some fans second guessing Louisville’s chances at a national title, but there isn’t a team in the country that hasn’t had a loss like that. There is no clear front-runner to cut down the nets in Atlanta in April. Coach Pitino remained positive...

An NBA Scout’s Take On Russ Smith

As you could expect, there were multiple NBA scouts in attendance on Saturday at the KFC Yum Center for the Louisville – Syracuse match-up. One of the veteran NBA scouts spoke with Adam Zagoria of SNY.TV following the game. Here is his evaluation of Russ Smith’s performance. **Russ Smith, Louisville (25 points, 4 steals) Scout’s take:  ”Russ Smith is shooting up the charts...

Manti Te’o's Fake Girlfriend Tried To Contact Peyton Siva On Twitter

Deadspin.com is the website that broke the entire Manti Te’o fake girlfriend hoax last week, which has become the biggest story of 2013. One of DeadSpin’s most recent articles on the Te’o situation looked back at all of the Tweets from the fake Lennay Kekua Twitter account. It turns out the fake account had contacted Peyton Siva following Louisville’s second round win 18...

The Rundown: Villanova

Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinal will look to bounce back tonight from their 70-68 home loss to Syracuse over the weekend as they take on the Villanova Wildcats on the road. As Rick Pitino mentioned at his press conference yesterday, this isn’t the Nova team that we’re used to seeing. Jay Wright’s team is 11-7 overall and 2-3 in Big East play. Nova had won seven straight...

Cards all business preparing for Villanova

After a 70-68 loss to Syracuse on Saturday, University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino met with the media on Monday to talk about the Cardinals’ game on Tuesday at Villanova. Pitino had plenty to say about the Wildcats, the loss to the Orangemen and his team’s progress. Cardinal Authority was there.

A Few Minor Concerns For Louisville Hoops

The more time that passes, the less irritated I am about Louisville’s performance on Tuesday evening against Villanova. I’d be lying if I said seeing Duke get blasted by Miami last night didn’t help. As I mentioned earlier this week, Tuesday’s loss shouldn’t warrant anyone to push the panic button, but it is a slight reason for concern. Nineteen games into the season, we’re...

Villanova 73 – Louisville 64: Cards Drop Two In A Row

I didn’t expect Louisville to run the table in Big East play this season, but I certainly didn’t expect to see them play like they did tonight.  It’s still January and the Cards have only three losses on the season, but what we saw tonight is slightly concerning. A week ago I was asking if this team had any real weaknesses. That question was answered tonight. Mental toughness...

Rick Pitino Compares His Players to Shaquille O'Neal and Dwight Howard

The #5 ranked Louisville Cardinals lost to Villanova last night 73-64.  The Cardinals shot exactly 50% from the free throw line going 12 of 24, while Nova shot 75%.  Louisville coach Rick Pitino blamed the loss to un-ranked Villanova on the poor free throw shooting, and called out two of the NBA's best centers ever at the same time.  “It was really a simple answer to...

Rick Pitino Says Louisville Shooting FTs Like Dwight Howard

Big guys and free throws seems to be a match made in hell, and not just in the NBA. The number 5 ranked Louisville Cardinals lost to the un-ranked Villanova last night 73-64. The biggest disparity between the Cardinals winning and losing was their free throw percentage. They shot 50% from the line going 12 of 24, while the Villanova shot 75% from the line. Rick Pitino blamed their...

A game to remember for UofL recruit Jalen Lindsey

Anyone need a pure shooter? Among the basketball recruits attending the Louisville-Syracuse game last weekend was Jalen Lindsey, a 6-foot-7, 180-pound juninor from Tennessee. It was his second visit to UofL. Jalen Lindsey Lindsey was also in Louisville over the Christmas holidays, leading his Christ Presbyterian Academy team to an 83-71 win over Ballard in the championship game of...

Louisville-Georgetown Preview

Basketball fans in Louisville have had the wind knocked out of them with the Cardinals being punched in the gut this week. The fifth-ranked Cardinals have lost back-to-back games since entering last weekend as the nation's top-ranked team. Louisville travels to Georgetown on Saturday looking to bounce back from its latest setback and avoid dropping three in a row for the first...

Louisville-Villanova Preview

Louisville only occupied the No. 1 spot for a week as its 11-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday. However, the turnover-minded Cardinals appear poised to get back on track on Tuesday night against Villanova, a team that has struggled to protect the basketball while losing three straight. Fifth-ranked Louisville (16-2, 4-1 Big East) forces 19.7 turnovers a game, the second...
