The locker room at the University of Kentucky’s famed Rupp Arena is undergoing construction, and what better way to spruce up one of college basketball’s iconic cathedrals then to have a portion of the floor from the 2012 Final Four in New Orleans—the same floor where UK won it’s eighth National Championship this past year—installed in the locker room floor.  And by portion I mean a whopping 3000 sq. feet of the court where Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Doron Lamb and the rest of the Wildcats triumphed in the NCAA tournament.

Said Coach John Calipari (via the Official Site of the Kentucky Wildcats)…

“I’m not sure I’ve heard of any other locker room doing anything like this,” Calipari said. “But then again, it seems like here at Kentucky we do a lot of things that have never been done.”

“When you walk on the floor, this is it; this is the floor we won the national title (on) in 2012 and that was the free throw that Doron Lamb made to ice the game, and this is the free-throw line he shot it on,” Calipari said. “So it’ll be neat.”

In addition to the one-of-a-kind floors the locker room will be modeled after NBA locker rooms, a point which Calipari thinks will be a motivating tool in getting recruits to choose Kentucky during their campus visits., as if they needed any more incentive to commit to one of the most prestigious college basketball programs in the country.  But hey, every little bit helps.

The remainder of the floor from the Final Four will be divvied up into several hundred pieces and sold to the public, with 100% of the proceeds going to help fight pediatric cancer in Kentucky.  With the rabidness of Wildcats fans in the Bluegrass State at an all-time high following their latest championship, expect these items to sell out in about 3 1/2 minutes.
