The Cardinal Connect:
Russ Smith’s father has informed Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports that his son will return to Louisville for his senior season. We’ll find out for sure around 1 PM when Rick Pitino and Russ Smith meet with the local media.
Goodman’s article claims that Russ was told that he could greatly improve his draft stock by sticking around for another year and improving his decision making.
Like many of you, I would have preferred that Russ’ dad let his son have his moment to share the news with everyone, but oh well.
TheCardinalConnect.com will have live stream video of the press conference at 1 PM.

One college championship is apparently not enough for the Louisville star, as he announced on Wednesday that he'll be coming back for his senior season.
According to Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports, Louisville point guard Russ Smith is going to forego the NBA Draft and return to school.
The 6-foot junior guard, who said shortly after the Cardinals won the national championship that he was declaring for the NBA Draft, will come back for his senior season. He made a formal announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

Why should he stay? Anyone would be crazy to not have a guy return that was in many Player of the Year conversations. Louisville needs him. The incoming class has some good guards and guys who can create, but you never truly know what you are going to get until they get on campus (see UK last season). So, with that, you would have a great sense of security going into...
Despite multiple accounts of people (including his own father) saying Russ Smith will go pro, the junior will stay at the University of Louisville for his final year.
Pitino spoke first in the press conference and noted several reasons for Smith sticking around: becoming more NBA-ready by creating a better assist/turnover ratio, gaining ten pounds and making better shot...

With Russ back, the Cards have a real shot of repeating as national champions next season. Undoubtably the Cards will be ranked in the top 5 when the season starts. In fact, the early polls suggest that Kentucky and Louisville will top the polls.
Pitino and Russ held a press conference...
Despite earlier reports of the contrary, Louisville guard Russ Smith announced Wednesday that he will be returning to school for his senior season.
It was initially rumored that Smith would join the sizable pool of college stars that have declared for the NBA draft, including Kansas’ Ben McLemore, Michigan’s Trey Burke and Louisville teammate Gorgui Dieng.
Smith’s father fueled...

Considering the success of Louisville basketball over the past two seasons, it’s hard to argue that Peyton Siva and Russ Smith aren’t the best backcourt in the history of the program. Next year’s backcourt may not accomplish what Russ Smith and Peyton Siva did, but the crop of guards that Rick Pitino will have are going to be very good. Russ Smith’s decision to stay could...
