Freshman Johnny Dee scored 22 points Monday night and put San Diego ahead to stay late in the second half in a 66-61 win over Stephen F. Austin in its season opener. San Diego, coming off a 6-24 record last season, played its first game since a federal indictment in the offseason charged two former players and a former assistant coach with game-fixing. Dee put the Toreros ahead to stay when he stole a pass and was hammered by Darius Gardner going up for a layup. Dee sank both free throws on the flagrant foul for a 61-59 lead with 4:51 left. San Diego got the ball out of bounds and Chris Manresa converted one of two free throws on the possession. Manresa had 12 points and tied his career high with 11 rebounds for the Toreros. Antonio Bostic had 22 points to lead Stephen F. Austin (1-1) and Gardner added 16.
