VIRGINIA TECH 81, #15 Oklahoma State 71 - Erick Green scored 18 of his career-high 28 points in the second half and hit eight free throws in the final 1:16 to help Virginia Tech upset No. 15 Oklahoma State in a nonconference game played Saturday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum. With the win, the Hokies moved to 7-0 overall on the season, which marks their best start since the 1982-83 team won its first seven games to start the season. Oklahoma State fell to 5-1 overall.Perhaps more impressively, Tech beat a ranked nonconference opponent for the first time since 1995 (UVa in Roanoke), snapping a 14-game losing streak to ranked nonleague foes. And the Hokies beat a ranked nonconference opponent at Cassell Coliseum for the first time since 1978 when they beat Syracuse. Recap.#2 DUKE 88, Delaware 50 - Ryan Kelly scored 15 of his 18 points in the decisive first half and Plumlee added a double-double in Duke's rout of Delaware.Plumlee had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils (8-0), who never trailed, shot 52 percent and led by 46.Seth Curry, the other scholarship senior on the roster, missed the first game of his career at Duke with an injured ankle. Against the struggling Blue Hens (2-6), the Blue Devils certainly didn't need him. Recap.MIAMI 75, UMass 62 - Reggie Johnson scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Miami pulled away in the second half to defeat Massachusetts for its fourth straight victory. The Hurricanes (5-1) led for most of the second half, but a 3-pointer by Raphiael Putney, followed by a driving layup by Jesse Morgan, put the Minutemen (3-3) ahead 52-51 with 8:29 remaining. But a 3-pointer by Rion Brown started a 13-3 run that gave the Hurricanes a 64-55 lead, their biggest of the game to that point, with 5:01 remaining. In Miami's 67-59 upset of No. 13 Michigan State on Wednesday, the Spartans clogged the middle to prevent the 6-foot-10, 292-pound Johnson from making an impact. Against the Minutemen, who pressured the perimeter, the senior center had more room to operate. He shot 6-for-13 from the floor and made 7 of 8 free throw attempts. Recap.VIRGINIA 67, Green Bay 51 - Akil Mitchell had a career-high 20 points and nine rebounds as Virginia defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay.Joe Harris added 20 points for Virginia (6-2).Green Bay (3-4) was led by Alec Burke's 14 points. Keifer Sykes had 12.Virginia, coming off a win in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Wisconsin on Wednesday, shot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the field and held the Phoenix to 34 percent (18-of-53). Recap.#14 NORTH CAROLINA 102, UAB 84 - Leslie McDonald scored a career-high 24 points in his first career start to help No. 14 North Carolina beat UAB 102-84 on Saturday night.James Michael McAdoo added 15 points and 12 rebounds as part of a balanced offensive showing for the Tar Heels (6-2).North Carolina was coming off an ugly loss at No. 1 Indiana, but the Tar Heels regrouped with a win despite playing without starting freshman point guard Marcus Paige due to a shoulder injury. The Tar Heels shot 53 percent and had six players reach double figures, though they had trouble putting away the program led by former UNC assistant coach Jerod Haase. Recap.Richmond 62, WAKE FOREST 60 - Richmond used near-perfect second-half free throw shooting to hold off Wake Forest at the Robins Center in Richmond, Va.The Demon Deacons (3-4) held a number of leads in the second half, but were never able to pull away by more than a point, and the Spiders (6-2) made their first 17 second-half free throws before intentionally missing the final one with 1.9 seconds left to close out the game.Devin Thomas led the Demon Deacons with 11 points and also grabbed six rebounds. Tyler Cavanaugh also hit double figures with 10 points. Travis McKie was the Deacons' leading rebounder with eight boards, and also added two assists. The Demon Deacons did not turn the ball over once in the last 17:48 of the game, finishing with only eight turnovers on the night and outshot the Spiders 43 percent to 38 percent. But the difference came at the free throw line, where despite going 20-of-26, Wake Forest was edged by Richmond, which went 24-of-28. Recap.
