Rashad Hassan scored 14 points and Arnold Louis played tough defense down the stretch to lead Savannah State past Mount St. Mary's 45-41 on Thursday night.
Hassan shot 75 percent from the field (6 of 8), including back-to-back layups that gave Savannah State the lead for good.
Louis finished with eight points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four blocks. His defense helped hold Mount St. Mary's leading scorer Julian Norfleet to just four points on 1 of 6 shooting.
Mount St. Mary's outshot Savannah State from the field 42.9 percent (18 of 42) to 33.3 percent (16 of 48) but sent the Tigers to the line 19 times compared to just four trips for the Mountaineers.
Danny Thompson led Mount St. Mary's with eight points but no other Mountaineer scored more than seven points.
Preston Blackmon finished with nine points for Tigers.
