TAMPA, Fla. — A quick look at Washington, which will be Mississippi State's opponent in an NCAA Tournament first round game Thursday in Portland, Ore.:
• The Huskies won the Pac-10 regular season title with a 14-4 league record. U-Dub was 25-8 in the regular season.
• Washington had won six in a row before losing to Arizona State in the Pac-10 Tournament Friday.
• One common foe this year for MSU and UW was Florida. The Gators beat Washington, 86-84, but that was way back on Nov. 25. State, of course, beat UF 80-71 in Starkville on March 4.
• Guard Isaiah Thomas leads UW in scoring, at 15.4 points per game. He was named the Pac-10's freshman of the year.
• Jon Brockmon, a 6-7 senior forward, averages a double-double of 14.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
• Senior guard Justin Dentmon averages 15 points per game.
• Washington leads the Pac-10 in points per game, 78.9.
• Washington is second-worst in that conference in defense, allowing 69.6 points per game, and 3-point shooting, 34 percent.
• Washington is that league's best rebounding team, at a +8.4 margin.
• UW last made the tournament in 2006, and yours truly covered that first-and-second round site. San Diego. Good times.
