If you’ve followed The Cardinal Connect over the years, you probably already know that I’m one of the bigger Mike Marra fans around. In my opinion, a good majority of Louisville fans have an unfair perception of Mike. In a few years when you look back on Mike Marra’s career at Louisville, I expect some will consider it disappointing. As unfair as that is, it’s the truth. Certain fans will remember Mike for what Rick Pitino labeled him as prior to his freshman season. “He’s the best high school shooter I’ve ever seen.” That infamous quote from Rick Pitino is something that Marra has never been able to escape from.
A cold shooting night during his first two years usually resulted in an uproar from the fans. “He can’t play, take him out, Rick” or “best high school shooter he’s ever seen? Yeah, right.” As ridiculous as it sounds, you all know that you’ve heard someone say that at least one time.
