Coming off a 20-point beat down on the road in Chapel Hill, Florida State needed a victory on Thursday night to pull back within a 1/2 game of UNC.
The Seminoles used an early advantage to get the win, sending Georgia Tech to their fourth straight loss.

Duke remains on top in the ACC, but North Carolina and Florida State continue to threaten with just under a month remaining in the regular season. Each conference win is crucial and last night's 72-63 win in Atlanta helped the Seminoles keep pace among the league's best.

Despite the loss, Georgia Tech junior guard Iman Shumpert struck a milestone, becoming the 41st player in school history to score 1,000 points.

Shumpert finished the game with a team-high 25 points. Sophomore Glen Rice Jr. added 24 in the loss. The two combined for 49 of the team's 63 points.

An early 14-0 run helped the Seminoles take control of the contest as the Yellow Jackets were limited to just 18 first half points.

It has been a disappointing season for head coach Paul Hewitt's squad to say the least. The highlight of the night certainly comes on Shumpert's 1,000 point. A jumper at the 18:33 mark in the second half gave the junior the milestone, but in a night of disappointment.

Chris Singleton finished with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds leading a balanced attack that also included 15 points from sophomore Michael Snaer.

Florida State improves to 17-7 overall and 7-3 in the ACC. The Seminoles are scheduled to host Virginia at 3:00pm ET on Saturday afternoon. As for Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets will head to Virginia Tech on Sunday looking to snap their current four-game losing streak.
