Northwestern's John Shurna and Dave Sobolewski took home Big Ten weekly honors. Shurna was tabbed Co-Player of the week; Sobolewski earned Co-Freshman of the Week, his first weekly honor.
Led by John Shurna’s 24 points and a career-high in scoring from Reggie Hearn, Northwestern downed in-state rival Illinois in Champaign for the first time since 1999, winning by a score of 74-70.
Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler was worried upon seeing that John Shurna, the Big Ten's leading scorer, was slotted at center for Thursday's game. In his postgame press conference, Sadler stated Northwestern is at its best with a smaller lineup. He's got a point.
