When the Michigan State Spartan’s basketball team opens the season, they’ll be doing so in style. When the team take on the number one ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in the first major college basketball game on an aircraft carrier, they’ll be wearing specially-designed camouflaged home white uniforms.
The game has received a lot of attention due to the teams playing in it, but even more was garnered when President Barack Obama announced he’d be in attendance for the Quicken Loans Carrier Classic. The aircraft the game will be played is said to seat roughly 7,000 people. The game is the Spartan’s first regular season game and will take place on 11-11-11 in San Diego.
“I think the uniforms are pretty cool,” said MSU head coach Tom Izzo. “They definitely put the spotlight on our military and that’s what this is for. I like that instead of player names, they put ‘U.S.A.’ on the back. For once, everybody can be on the same team.”
