Long Island, we have a problem! After today's Stony Brook game, the question has to be asked? Is the hype about Stony Brook fading? Is the loss of Tommy Brenton to much? One has to think that the Brookies (we got you Oscar) are in trouble after a loss today to Wagner 58-54. Yes Wagner, the team predicted to finish 11th out of 12 teams in the Northeast. For the third time in four games, Stony Brook failed to score over 60 points. We have seen early on that the offense is just not there.
So why all the questions after one loss? Well, look at the three wins that the Seawolves have. They beat Mount Ida in what was basically an exhibition. They followed it up with a two point win against Monmouth. Yes, the game was played at 6 am in the morning, but for a team predicted to finish high in the AE conference, they looked very sloppy against a team predicted to finish 10th in the Northeast. Finally, a four point win against Fairleigh Dickinson. The same Fairleigh Dickinson team that UAlbany, a team predicted to finish at the bottom of the AE, beat 72-46.
Is the hype dead? Not at all. However, after the past six days, one has to wonder if Stony Brook can survive the long season. They are now off till December 1st. Lehigh, Columbia and Holy Cross are the first three to start December. We may know real soon if Stony Brook will be a threat this season.
