After having lost in the Elite Eight to Ohio State it seems that Syracuse is once again losing, this time a key member of their team from this record breaking season. Sophomore guard Dion Waiters, who was voted the Big East’s Sixth Man this year, has decided to move on and enter the NBA draft.

“I’ve decided to pursue my dream of becoming a professional basketball player by entering my name in the NBA Draft this spring,” Waiters said in a statement issued by the university. “I plan on signing with an agent.”

Waiters averaged 12.6 points, 2.6 assists & 2.3 rebounds while playing about 24 minutes for head coach Jim Boeheim as the squad ended the season with a 34-3 record, losing just once in the Big East and gaining a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Not bad for a player that some thought at the end of last season was close to transferring from Syracuse. Now, for one of the “go to” players on this season’s squad, it’s on to the next level, where many so-called experts believe he can be a mid to late first rounder. I will try to get a list of mock drafts to show where they see the 6’4″ guard could land in the up coming draft.

The second year guard made his final decision after speaking to the man at the helm of the program.

“He said he’d like me back, but he said he thinks I’m ready,’’ Waiters said Monday night. “He’s glad I came to Syracuse and played for him. He thinks I’ve matured a lot. He wished me luck.’’

The young man also went home to talk to his family about the move, but from an article on Syracuse.com it says that the sophomore plans on finishing his semester at SU as far as class are concerned, which show the level of maturity that Waiters has. Waiters is also still going to find an agent, which will be interesting to see who he chooses. As more information comes out I will post it on this site.
