Robert Covington scored 17 points and Patrick Miller 14 as Tennessee State came back from a 14-point second-half deficit and beat Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 52-49 Saturday night.
SIU-Edwardsville led throughout the second half until Miller's three-point play with 35 seconds remaining gave the Tigers (10-9, 3-3 Ohio Valley Conference) a 51-49 lead.
After Kris Davis missed a 3-point attempt for the Cougars (5-10, 3-3), Covington added a free throw with 8 seconds left.
SIU-Edwardsville had led by 14 points, 43-29, with 12:56 remaining. The Cougars were still ahead 47-37 at the 6:58 mark but missed 8 of 9 shots the rest of the way.
Tennessee State, which trailed 24-17 at halftime, shot 52 percent (13 of 25) in the second half to 36 percent (9 of 25) for SIU-Edwardsville.
M.J. Rhett added 11 rebounds and six points for Tennessee State.
Jerome Jones had 14 points and Davis 12 for the Cougars.
