It's been awhile, busy with school and work but I'm back and ready for basketball season. Stony Brook was granted the opportunity to play in Europe this August and are currently in London where they will play in England's own version of Midnight Madness. This really is a huge advantage and opportunity for Stony Brook as they were able to practice for a week prior to the trip. This is huge especially for the freshman and transfers who are able to accustom themselves to practice and begin to build some game chemistry with the team. It appears forward transfer Ron Bracey will have a very large impact on the team and maybe even the league as he dropped 19 points and grabbed six rebs in the team's second game. From the limited game highlights it appears that Bracey can stroke the three ball as well as put in on the deck and get to the rim. His Junior College Stats support the notion that he is a shooter. Now I know this is only a couple games, but judging from the limited highlights, Bracey is a smooth player. You can see some of those highlights here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKiRSj7-bNw
In addition, Tommy Brenton returns to the team after a year out with a knee injury. Tommy pulled down double digit rebounds in his first contest back and will be the glue guy for the team all year. With Brenton back, and the possibility of Bracey taking over El Amin's scoring, this team is very very similar to the regular season champion team Stony Brook had back in 2009-2010. The only key player that has since moved on is Guard Chris Martin. Stony Brook is as deep as they have ever been, which is saying something considering they have always played ten guys. This team is going to be very dangerous barring injuries. Any player on any given night can lead the team in scoring and with Stony Brook's defense and and extreme depth I won't be suprised to see them simply run other teams into the ground with a constant bombardment of fresh legs.
