The next player to be reviewed in the Illinois Basketball Summer School series (coming Monday), Illini senior center Mike Tisdale is apparently having himself quite a nice summer.
From packing some much-needed pounds onto his lanky frame to getting named to the USA Select Team that recently practiced against Team USA in Las Vegas to receiving an invitation to travel to New York and continue practicing against the national team in August, Tisdale certainly has been feeling the love, as evidenced by a great amount of press coverage this week.
Here’s a collection of this week’s Tisdale stories and some video (during which Tisdale actually looks a bit heavier, at least in the face).
● Tisdale bulking up to hold his own (Chicago Tribune).
● Illini’s 7-1 Tisdale finally packing on pounds (KFVS-12 Heartland News).
● Tupper: Illini’s Tisdale upbeat over his ‘Select’ showing (Pantagraph.com).
● Tisdale: ‘Best basketball experience I’ve had’ (Daily Illini).
● Tate: Tisdale headed to bigger things (News Gazette).
● Memory Lane: Tisdale and Cole (News Gazette).
Just as many NFL teams are currently feeling good about their season prospects heading into training camp, the optimism about Tisdale is certainly high at the end of the July.
Let’s hope that optimism translates to Tisdale having a ton of individual and team success during a senior season where he is much more consistent and tougher, not so reliant on the jump shot, and a bigger interior presence on both ends of the court.
Alright.
Coming tomorrow: a review of this week’s Fighting Illini football headlines.
On Sunday, Writing Illini’s weekly spin around the men’s basketball program.
And Monday through Wednesday, Parts I, II and III on Tisdale in the Illinois Summer Basketball Series.
