Heading into this year’s NCAA tournament, the Louisville Cardinals appeared to have the deepest bench of any team in the big dance. Considering how well Kevin Ware, Luke Hancock, Montrezl Harrell and Stephan Van Treese were playing at the end of the regular season, Louisville’s depth was just one of the many reasons why they were projected as the overall favorite.
Louisville’s depth advantage took a major hit last Sunday when Kevin Ware went down with a broken leg. Fortunately for Louisville, Ware’s injury just meant another player from the bench would have to step up. That is exactly what happened against Wichita State as Luke Hancock came off of the bench to lead all scorers with 21-points and Tim Henderson knocked down two big three pointers.
