Kodi Maduka scored 16 points and added seven blocks as Tulsa defeated Western Kentucky 65-49 on Thursday to open the Charleston Classic.
The Hilltoppers (1-2) had few answers for the 6-foot-11 Maduka or his equally tall teammates for the Golden Hurricane (3-0), who started two 6-11 players at TD Arena. D.J. Magley had 12 rebounds, while Maduka and Steven Idlet had seven boards apiece.
Tulsa took control with a 19-5 first-half run and weren't pressured the rest of the way, stretching the lead to 23 points near the end.
Jordan Clarkson and Scottie Haralson had nine points apiece for the Golden Hurricane.
Kahlil McDonald led Western Kentucky with 13 points and Nigel Snipes had 10.
Tulsa will take on either LSU or Northwestern in the eight-team tournament on Friday.
