I've heard many Boston College fans complaining about the play of Tyrese Rice so far. There have been criticisms of his "lackadaisical" play on the court, especially against weaker opponents. I am not one of these fans. I have and will continue to support the Tyrese Rice as the leader of this team. His statistics this season support his improved play.
This Year Last Year FG% .463 .433 3P% .429 .358 Turnovers 2.6 3.4 A/T 2.05 1.45 Assists 5.4 5.0 Points 17.1 21.0Sure his points are down slightly, but Coach Al Skinner said at the begining of the year that the team would be better off if he scored less and managed the game more, which is exactly what he is doing. Take last night for example, Rice could have scored 30 without blinking an eye against Bryant, but he chose to get the younger players involved in the game. This shows his game is maturing. If you compare his numbers his turnovers are down, while his assists and shooting percentages are both up. This is a good sign not only for his draft stock, but also for this team.
When it comes down to it, Rice is still the guy we will give the ball to when we need a crucial bucket. But this shows that his game is maturing and he is developing into a true point guard. He should not be criticized for trying to get his teammates involved in the game, especially early in the season when players are still adjusting and learning.
