UCLA is supposed to have a great mix of youth and experience. The youth has taken a hit with the eligibility status of freshmen Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson still in limbo. The experience has taken a hit as well. Junior guard Tyler Lamb will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, the school announced Sunday night. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and Lamb is expected to miss four to six weeks. Lamb underwent a similar surgery on the same knee during the summer leading up to his freshman year at UCLA, which sidelined him for a month. Lamb appeared in all 33 games of the Bruins' 19-14 2011-2012 campaign and made 32 starts. He averaged nine points and 3.6 rebounds. During the Bruins recent trip to China in August, Lamb averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 assists in three games. Even with a four-week recovery, similar to what he had two years ago, that still puts Lamb in jeopardy for the Bruins season opener against Indiana State in the new Pauley Pavilion on Nov. 9. UCLA head coach Ben Howland is "optimistic" Lamb will be back in action in four weeks. "He's going to be very diligent with his rehab, and we are hopeful that this will be a quick and successful procedure," Howland said in a statement. "He had similar surgery on this knee the summer before his freshman year, and he quickly recovered from that." If Lamb's recovery takes the full six weeks, he'll be out until Nov. 19 and miss Legends Classic games against UC Irvine, James Madison, and Georgetown. Two of the four Legends Classic games will be played at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
