Twitter/@UConnHuskies The difference between UConn and the rest of the nation is that it doesn’t matter to us whether it’s men’s or women’s basketball. Both teams are well-loved, and they get to celebrate a lot – more than any other teams in college basketball in recent years. And so it is again after another championship. On Tuesday night, UConn gave Louisville the business, winning the program’s eighth national championship 93-60 at New Orleans Arena. UConn Country outnumbered every other fanbase in attendance at the Final Four this weekend, but it wasn’t just the fans in the crowd that enjoyed the championship. Not many schools pay much attention to their women’s basketball team, but UConn students filed into Gampel Pavilion on Tuesday night to watch the game on three large screens that were set up on the court. Right at the front of the mob of students were several of the most prominent names on campus. Shabazz Napier, DeAndre Daniels, Ryan Boatright, RJ Evans and the rest of the UConn men’s basketball team joined up with their classmates to watch the women’s team go for the title. The bond between the men’s and women’s teams at UConn is well recognized, and here at the end of the season, it is apparent what kind of impact the two teams’ relationship has had on the student body. After the game, the students rushed the court to celebrate with each other, and then took the celebration out onto Fairfield Way across from the Student Union, where the celebration carried on well into the night. Here is a look at some of the sights and sounds from Storrs, Conn. on Tuesday night. @uconnmbb shows support 4 @uconnwbb at Gampel Pavilion 4 @ncaawomensbkb Nat Champ game. #Huskiesforever twitter.com/Thephotodawg/s… — Robert W Stowell Jr (@Thephotodawg) April 10, 2013 #UConn fans storm Gampel court twitter.com/peatonrobb/sta… — Patrick Eaton-Robb (@peatonrobb) April 10, 2013 Bazz, Bazz, Bazz twitter.com/dandanmaher/st… — Danny Maher (@dandanmaher) April 10, 2013 On Wednesday, the team returned to Storrs, and the celebration continued, as fans from all over the state joined the student body in welcoming home the dominant national champions.
