Jim CalhounBy Paul Seaver (TheArenaPulse)
The University of Connecticut has announced that head coach Jim Calhoun will take an indefinite medical leave of absence.
Associate head coach George Blaney will once again take charge of a UConn team that is currently in the midst of a four-game losing streak.
The Huskies are 14-7 on the season and 4-5 within the Big East Conference.
The school confirmed on Friday that Calhoun will miss at least the next two games when UConn hosts Seton Hall on Saturday and then travels to Louisville on Monday.
Calhoun, who turns 70 in May, has had a history of health problems, most recently dating back to a January 2010 leave of absence.
The longtime head coach is currently sixth all-time in wins at 867 and has won three national championships, including his most recent just last season.
The Huskies have struggled recently with leadership and chemistry issues, constructing a 2-6 mark over the course of the past eight games.
UConn and Seton Hall will tip-off on Saturday at noon (EST) from the XL Center in Hartford.
