UNC was pretty short on point guards last season, that’s why the addition of four-star recruit Nate Britt will be a very welcomed addition to the UNC offense.  The loss of guard Dexter Strickland will mean that Britt will be expected to immediately play important minutes for the Tar Heels next season. Britt is a 6’1, 165 pound point guard out of Oak Hill Academy. Britt led Oak Hill Academy to a national championship in 2012 while averaging 8 points and 5 assists per game. Nate Britt Britt is an incredibly quick guard who will be able to really push the break. Last year, coach Roy Williams was constantly urging his team to push the ball down the floor; fortunately, he won’t have to do too much nudging with Britt because Britt loves to lead the fast break. Britt is also a very good defender with a true point guard mentality so don’t be surprised if coach Williams pairs him on the court with the more scoring-inclined Marcus Paige at times next season. Some things that Britt needs to work on are strength, turnovers, and his shooting. Britt shot about 60% from the free-throw line last season. All of these weaknesses are pretty fixable, and Britt will want to fix them pretty quickly because next year the point guard position gets even more crowded with the addition of heralded prospect Joel Berry. It has been said by some observers that Britt didn’t enter his senior season of high school in the best shape. It will be important for him to enter his freshman year at UNC ready to take on serious minutes because he is the only other true point guard on the roster besides Marcus Paige. Expect Britt to spell page at the point guard position and maybe even slide Paige over to the two-guard at times in the upcoming season.
