It's been a rough day for UNC basketball.
On the heels of former player George Karl being relieved as head coach of the NBA's Denver Nuggets, news broke that current UNC guard P.J. Hairston was arrested on drug charges Thursday. Hairston was stopped by officers in Durham, N.C., for a license check when he and two passengers, Miykael Faulcon and Carlos Sanford, were found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
The charge is considered a misdemeanor.
Hairston, a rising junior for the Tar Heels, received an additional charge for driving without a license.
UNC has yet to release a statement on the incident.
The 6-foot-5 scorer was considered an NBA Draft prospect after averaging 14.6 points per game as a sophomore, but opted to return to Chapel Hill before the draft deadline in April.
