But because of a promise he made to his late grandmother, he’s going to wait one more year before putting those talents on display at the next level. Payne, who was slotted as a probable first round pick in most NBA mock drafts, announced yesterday that he will return to Michigan State for one final season in an attempt to win an NCAA title for the Spartans. And while he admitted that the goal of winning another championship for Tom Izzo’s program was important, the decision came down to fulfilling a promise he made to the woman who raised him, his late grandmother, Mary Lewis. Here’s a clip of Payne explaining his decision. It’s easy to see why MSU fans love him.
