Murphy leads No. 4 Florida past No. 16 Ole Miss

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Erik Murphy scored 19 points and was instrumental on the defensive end, helping No. 4 Florida beat 16th-ranked Mississippi 78-64 Saturday night. Murphy made 7 of 8 shots, including 5 of 6 from 3-point range, and added six rebounds and four assists. Defensively, he took a charge, had a block and altered several shots in the paint. Pat Young added 13 points...

Florida's Achilles heel

The Florida Gators are currently steam rolling the SEC. They're 8-0, and the closest anyone has played them is 14 points. They are winning by an average of 26.5 points. They don't have a single game left on their schedule where they aren't predicted by Pomeroy to be a double digit favorite. They have the No. 2 offense in the nation and the best defense. In conference...

No. 4 Florida piling up wins with stingy defense

Billy Donovan has coached plenty of good defensive teams in his 17 seasons at Florida. None of them quite like this. The fourth-ranked Gators have been ridiculously stingy this season, especially in Southeastern Conference play. Florida (17-2, 7-0 SEC) ranks second in the nation in scoring defense, giving up a paltry 50.4 points a game. The Gators have held 15 teams under 60 points...

No. 4 Florida moves to 8-0 in SEC

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida finally faced a little competition in the Southeastern Conference. Just a little, though. Erik Murphy scored 19 points and was instrumental on the defensive end, helping the No. 4 Gators beat 16th-ranked and short-handed Mississippi 78-64 Saturday night.

Florida defense faced challenge in Henderson

Dripping sweat and still trying to catch his breath at times after the game, Florida point guard Scottie Wilbekin insisted he was fine. Covering the Southeastern Conference’s leading scorer Marshall Henderson is a tough job. The consensus of Florida players and coaches after the game was that Wilbekin guarded Henderson well — and the junior still managed to put up 25 points against Florida.

Rebels had no answer for Murphy's torrid touch

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Ole Miss threatened to make it a game late in the first half of Florida's 78-64 win Saturday night at a sold-out O'Connell Center. As the Gators have done as routinely as pull on their gym shorts of late, they seized control early and built a 20-point lead before halftime. Florida led 35-15 when the Rebels started to chip away. And to no one's surprise...

Boynton maturing through career

Kenny Boynton came to Gainesville four years ago billed as one of the top high school players in the country. Before starting his senior year, Boynton even admitted that he never imagined he would play at Florida for four years. His game has changed while being a four-year starter for the Gators, as he recorded his first career ten-assist game in a win over Ole Miss on Saturday.
