I didn’t expect Louisville to run the table in Big East play this season, but I certainly didn’t expect to see them play like they did tonight.  It’s still January and the Cards have only three losses on the season, but what we saw tonight is slightly concerning. A week ago I was asking if this team had any real weaknesses. That question was answered tonight. Mental toughness and winning close games looks to be a problem. It’s still too early to go jumping off of the deep end, but Villanova isn’t very good. They’re not very good at all. I’m not quite sure what the answer is, but hopefully Coach Pitino does. For the first time this season, Russ Smith wasn’t Russ Smith. Tonight was clearly his worst performance of the season. Is it fair to see this team will go as Russ goes? He finished just 2-of-13 from the floor. Peyton Siva played well finishing with 15 points and 11 assists. Wayne Blackshear was also a bright spot. He finished with 17 points and 4 steals. Other than that, there is...

Rick Pitino on Louisville loss: We shot free throws like Shaq and Dwight Howard

Louisville lost its second straight tough game in a row on Tuesday night, this time at the hands of Villanova. Over the weekend, the Cardinals lost a tough home game to No. 6-ranked Syracuse. However, the Wildcats are a team they should have beaten. Had they been more successful from the charity stripe, Rick Pitino’s team may have come away with a win. Louisville hit only 12...

Manti Te’o's Fake Girlfriend Tried To Contact Peyton Siva On Twitter

Deadspin.com is the website that broke the entire Manti Te’o fake girlfriend hoax last week, which has become the biggest story of 2013. One of DeadSpin’s most recent articles on the Te’o situation looked back at all of the Tweets from the fake Lennay Kekua Twitter account. It turns out the fake account had contacted Peyton Siva following Louisville’s second round win 18...

Cards all business preparing for Villanova

After a 70-68 loss to Syracuse on Saturday, University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino met with the media on Monday to talk about the Cardinals’ game on Tuesday at Villanova. Louisville extends Strong's contract

Charlie Strong has the long-term commitment he wanted from Louisville. The Cardinals coach and the university agreed on an eight-year contract extension Wednesday that will pay Strong an annual base salary of $3.7 million, plus incentives worth at least $583,333 for reaching the BCS Championship Game. Strong's third season with Louisville ended with a 33-23 upset of Florida...

Suspensions lifted for Dubose, Gaines, Pike and Hogan

They’re back. During an interview with ESPN blogger Andrea Adelson last week, University of Louisville offensive coordinator Shawn Watson mentioned the possibility of Zeke Pike playing tight end during the upcoming season. News to most of us. Pike, along with B. J. Dubose, Charles Gaines and Kamal Hogan, were suspended for disciplinary reasons shortly after the Cincinnati game...

Chucky Williams Flips Commitment From Ole Miss To Louisville

Chucky Williams, a 3-star athlete from Champagnat Catholic in Miami, FL., has flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to Louisville. Williams was one of the many recruits who took an official visit to Louisville over the weekend. Williams had given Ole Miss a verbal commitment in July, but apparently his visit over the weekend made quite an impression. He was also being heavily pursued...

Charlie Strong Nets a Huge Raise

In return for Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals dismantling the Florida Gators 33-23 in the 2013 All-State Sugar Bowl, the university is rewarding the head coach handsomely. The school agreed to a long-term contract with Strong that makes him one of the highest paid D1 football coaches in the nation. While there has been a whirlwind of coaches being fired as of late, Strong...

Louisville head coach Charlie Strong and UofL have finally agreed upon, and approved, a new eight year deal worth a reported $3.7 million per year. A Few Minor Concerns For Louisville Hoops

The more time that passes, the less irritated I am about Louisville’s performance on Tuesday evening against Villanova. I’d be lying if I said seeing Duke get blasted by Miami last night didn’t help. As I mentioned earlier this week, Tuesday’s loss shouldn’t warrant anyone to push the panic button, but it is a slight reason for concern. Nineteen games into the season, we’re...
