Mike DeCourcy Wake Forest announced Wednesday that coach Dino Gaudio received a contract extension through the 2013-14 season. Gaudio accepted the job under difficult circumstances, when his good friend, Skip Prosser, died suddenly in July 2007. Gaudio was serving as Wake's associate head coach and soon was asked to take over the program on a fulltime basis. He has compiled a 41-20 record and guided the 2008-09 team to the NCAA Tournament. The Deacons were ranked No. 1 at one point in the season but faded late and lost their first-round tournament game to Cleveland State. Two players from that squad, Jeff Teague and James Johnson, were chosen in the NBA draft's first round. Gaudio has continued to recruit successfully, and the 2009-10 Deacons are projected as a top-25 team by Sporting News.
