The Auburn women's basketball team (13-17) saw its season come to an end Thursday afternoon as the No. 9 seed Tigers fell to eighth-seeded Florida, 70-60, in the first round of the 2012 Southeastern Conference Tournament. The Gators (19-11) will take on regular-season champion Kentucky at 12 p.m., Friday in the second round.

Florida entered Tuesday’s game at Vanderbilt hoping for a win for a couple reasons. First, it would get the bad taste out of the Gators’ mouths after losing at 11th-place Georgia on Saturday. Although Florida is without reserve forward Will Yeguete for the rest of the year because of a broken foot, it didn’t have the effort needed to beat the Bulldogs, coach Billy Donovan said.
