TweetFran McCaffery’s first season at Iowa provided hope and optimism to the Hawkeye fan base that he could resurrect the program after it was driven into the ground by Todd Lickliter.
Last season the Hawkeyes went 11-20 overall (4-14 in conference) but got better as the season went along. The Hawkeyes improvement was noticeable by the end of the season especially when they upset #6 Purdue in their last game of the regular season.
Iowa returns four out of five starters from last season’s squad and looks to take another step forward in rebuilding the Iowa basketball program. Iowa has a luxury that many teams do not and that is they return their leading scorer (Matt Gatens 12.6 PPG), rebounder (Melsahn Basabe 6.8 RPG) and assist man (Bryce Cartwright 5.9 APG)
Iowa should be an improved team from last season and this is what others from around the country are saying about this year’s Hawkeye basketball team.
Most importantly, here is what Fran McCaffery had to say about h...

Big 10 Preview: #10 Iowa Hawkeyes
I'm probably higher on Iowa than most because I see some talent here, but it's hard to see how they can rise any higher than 10th, unless you have no faith in Indiana (but I do). Fran McCaffery had some scratching their heads when he left the mid-major mini-dynasty he created at Siena to take the Iowa job at a time when they were almost completely barren of talent or hope...
Hawkeye Football | James Vandenberg and the Game Within the Game
Originally I wanted to take a look at the last two games to see if Hawkeye quarterback James Vandenberg was "tipping his pitches." That's a baseball term and if you're not familiar it means that he's tipping the defense on what he's going to do after the snap. After thinking about it, I don't think that's the case. I do think that Vandenberg has...

Hawkeye Football | Looking for Answers in the Iowa Personnel
I'm not going to get into Iowa's mistakes against Minnesota. The effort, the onside kick, the forfeited possession at the end of the first half, or the offensive play calling at the end of the game. That's been discussed all over the web. As useless as it may seem, and perhaps as a form of therapy, I wanted to look for answers.
Here's the two-deeps for this week...

Hawkeye Links | Davis, McCall In, Fire Ferentz? Plus More
That's right, Chris Steinbach, of the Muscatine Journal, writes that "All good things come to an end." Chris asks "Fire Ferentz?" I say asks because he used the ever useful question mark. Chris also uses hard hitting supporting arguments like "And no one should be willing to accept a 5-7 record when Coach Kirk Ferentz is paid $3.5 million annually."...
Upset Bait: Michigan proving ground foiled by Iowa rebound
Perusing the weekly lines for a straight-up shocker or two — for entertainment only, of course.
GRAHAM WATSON: Iowa (+3.5) over Michigan.
Iowa is better than the team that inexplicably lost to Minnesota last week — the Hawkeyes outgained the Gophers by 75 yards, missing a pair of field goals and blowing two other opportunities inside the Minnesota 35-yard line in a one-point...
