It’s really no surprise that the Michigan Wolverines are the last Big Ten team standing after Sunday’s 79-59 dispatching of Florida in the South Regional Final. This has been a team that has seen numerous players thrive at different points of the season and now with possibly two games left, the match up problems they cause are numerous.
Destiny could have been in the Michigan lexicon after Trey Burke hit the NBA three on Friday night to send the win over Kansas into overtime. Michigan was on the ropes, trailing by 14, but the Jayhawks couldn’t make free throws to ensure the knock out. Then, Sunday, Michigan began where it finished on Friday. The Wolverines scored the game’s first 13 points and then gashed the Gators and assumed leads of 20-4 and 41-17 in the first half.
“We felt like we came out against Kansas pretty sluggish,” said Burke, who continues to lead this team as a seasoned veteran, “And we felt today the key was to come out and throw the first punch.”

It’s obvious that Michigan, the team with the best adjusted offensive efficiency rating in the country, poses problems for any team defensively. Even a defensive juggernaut like Kansas couldn’t contain the Wolverines, who scored 1.14 points per possession against the Jayhawks.
But if there is a team with a defense even better prepared to match up with Michigan’s offense than...
It looked like Michigan was headed home than Trey Burke decided to take over. He scored all of 23 points in the 2nd half and overtime and he hit a deep three pointer to send the game into overtime. Michigan beat Kansas by 2 and went on to cruise past Florida in the Elite 8. This is Michigan’s first trip to the Final Four since the Fab 5.
“We never had the mindset that we...
Spike Albrecht shined while Trey Burke sat.
After all that, Michigan and Louisville were still pretty much even. Then the Wolverines couldn't stop Louisville in the second half.
With Burke on the bench in early foul trouble, the seldom-used Albrecht scored 17 points in the first half, and the Wolverines led by 12 in Monday night's national title game. But that lead was...
Friday, Trey Burke hit the biggest shot of March Madness so far, and in doing so, gave his Michigan Wolverines a chance to win in Atlanta. (MGoBlog, Flickr)
In order for a sports miracle to happen, typically, a number of separate things have align cosmically in the universe and go perfectly right. The result of that happening, though, often drives teams to bigger success.
THREE REASONS MICHIGAN WILL WIN:
TREY BURKE: It is always a big advantage to have the best player on the floor, especially if he's going to have the ball in his hands. Burke is a consensus first-team All-America and a contender for nearly every player of the year award. The only reason he probably won't be the 1 pick in June's NBA draft is that teams are nervous about...
The Big Ten was and is the best conference in college basketball, but they are the cusp of not having one representative in the Final Four. Such is life in the NCAA Tournament. Single-elimination lowers the odds, and now they pin their hopes on Michigan to defeat the Florida Gators. Can Trey Burke beat the pressure defense of Florida? Surely. We already saw Michigan destroy the vaunted...
With Michigan wiping the floor with Gator blood all game long Sunday, Glenn Robinson III added insult to injury with this alley-oop slam from Trey Burke in the second half.
Nothing was stopping Michigan Sunday, not even three Florida players in the lane. Truly impressive.

Michigan's floor leader on his team's mentality heading into the Final Four, the memorable performances in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, the mentoring he is receiving from Jalen Rose, and more.
A basketball player in the zone can win a game.
An entire team in the zone? That has Michigan in its first Final Four since the Fab Five were the biggest thing in the land.
Instead of needing a Trey Burke miracle like they did against Kansas, the Wolverines blew favored Florida off the floor, booking a place in Atlanta with an easy 79-59 victory in the South region final.
Another fabulous group of young players has Michigan headed back to the Final Four.
Led by Big Ten player of the year Trey Burke and sharp-shooting guard Nik Stauskas, one of three freshman starters, the Wolverines dominated Florida right from tipoff, scoring the game's first 13 points and routing the Gators 79-59 in the South Regional final Sunday.
''A lot of guys...
Trey Burke and Glenn Robinson III connected on this insane alley-oop during Michigan's Elite Eight showdown against the Florida Gators.
Trey Burke's insane alley-oop pass to Glenn Robinson III served as the exclamation point in Michigan's Elite Eight win over the Florida Gators.
Last night’s Elite Eight games were pretty amazing. Syracuse/Marquette was a classic Big East, physical brawl that proved Cuse was the real deal. The Ohio State/Wichita State was one for the ages. I didn’t think the Shockers could pull off the upset, but they proved that they were the better team, at least for last night. However, when the Elite Eight schedule was released, I...
