I waited a while to think about this before writing anything. I was covering the Big 12 Wrestling Championships on Saturday but watched Oklahoma State's overtime loss to Iowa State. After OSU's Phil Forte missed a potential game clinching free throw with five seconds left in regulation, the Cowboys did not foul while holding a three-point lead for the final several seconds.
Oklahoma State were leading by 16 points in the second half. Phil Forte, the Big 12’s best free-throw shooter, was at the foul line with five seconds remaining in regulation with a chance to sew up a win. But with Marcus Smart sitting on the bench after fouling out, OSU allowed Iowa State to rally for an 85-81 overtime victory in the regular season finale at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
