Suprise MVP Award To Tracy Abrams
Freshman point guard Tracy Abrams was the surprise selection as Most Valuable Player at the 90th annual Kiwanis Basketball Banquet Tuesday evening. Former Fighting Illini coach Bruce Weber returned to campus to hand out awards for the players he coached. So the night was a tribute both to the accomplishments of the players and to the nine-year Weber tenure at Illinois.

Abrams Shows Offensive Prowess, Leadership
The Fighting Illini basketball team was forced to play a freshman at point guard before he was ready this season. Tracy Abrams spent much of his high school career on the wing, so the learning curve was steep entering college. Little by little, he has begun to contribute constructively. Against Purdue Wednesday, he scored 22 points in by far his best display to date.

Weber Candid After Another Disheartening Loss
For the seventh straight game, Purdue proved superior to the Fighting Illini in a basketball game, 67-62 in the Assembly Hall Wednesday night. Freshman Tracy Abrams nearly willed the Illini to victory, scoring 16 second half points. But the game was lost during an emotionless first half. Most importantly, Bruce Weber shared candid thoughts on his coaching and his team afterward.

Tracy Abrams Gaining Comfort In Starting Role
It is never easy to change positions. It is an especially difficult transition for freshmen basketball players being groomed for point guard. Fighting Illini rookie Tracy Abrams has received a crash course this fall and winter. He had played the position some before, but he is now providing major minutes as a freshman. It takes time, but he's learning.
