After narrowly escaping an upset bid from FCS-level Northern Iowa, the #13 Wisconsin Badgers are west-coast bound where they will meet the Pac-12′s Oregon State Beavers. This will be the Badgers (1-0) first ever trip to Corvallis to take on a Beavers (0-0) squad making their season debut. The Badgers took care of business against Oregon State last season, a 35-0 thumping at Camp Randall. Oregon State Beavers (0-0) Analysis: Due to the wrath of Hurricane Isaac, the Beavers’  game last Saturday with Nicholls State was postponed. Oregon State is coming off a 3-9 season in which they deployed a very young team. In fact, they return 14 starters from a season ago, including their top passer, rusher and receiver. Sophomore quarterback Sean Mannion (pictured above) is on the rise after having a full year of experience under his belt. He helped the Beavers average 286.8 passing yards per game which ranked 19th in the nation. Mannion didn’t have a bad day in Madison last year, completing 25...

Wisconsin Football: Bret Bielema Refuses to Send Tape to Oregon State

Oregon State was supposed to open their season on September 1st against Nicholls State. However, Hurricane Isaac made it impossible for the Thibodeaux, Louisiana school to fly up to Corvallis, Oregon to play the Beavers. The game has been postponed and has yet to be rescheduled, though I’m sure both sides are very interested in playing each other. Oregon State could use the extra...

Badgers use new vehicle for Heisman promo

MADISON, Wis. As Heisman Trophy promotional efforts go, it's not exactly a 10-story billboard in Times Square. But around the University of Wisconsin campus, the effect is certainly noticeable. That's where you'll find an unmistakable image of Wisconsin running back Montee Ball's body plastered to the side of a city transportation bus. Ball, arms outstretched while...

College Fantasy Football: Week 2 Rapid Fire Preview

Week 2 is here, and I hate to say it but it's completely void of compelling matchups. We had the typical Big East slop last night in the form of Pitt and Cincy.  Tonight you get an in-state rivalry. No, not Alabama-Auburn, Oklahoma State-Oklahoma or Michigan State-Michigan.  You get Utah-Utah State.  Meh.This weekend doesn't pit ANY ranked teams going head-to-head. Not...

Oregon State ready for No. 13 Wisconsin

Montee Ball says he shook off the offseason in Wisconsin's opener. That doesn't bode well for Oregon State. A Heisman Trophy finalist last season, Ball ran for 120 yards and a touchdown in the No. 13 Badgers' 26-21 win over FCS-level Northern Iowa last Saturday. In addition to the letup in the offseason, Ball had missed part of fall camp because of a concussion he sustained...

Happy Football Friday on Thursday Cougs.  Hard to believe it's already week two, as we near the home opener for the Mike Leach era.  So what are your expectations leading up to this one?  Are you positive that things will click in the vaunted Mike Leach offense?  Or are the Cougs in for more struggles and out-of-synch moments with the football?  Read on for our takes...

SaturdayEdge.com's Best Bet for Week Two

Line: Oregon State +7 Oregon State went into Madison last year and got destroyed 35-0, and that score didn’t really even tell the story of how dominant the Badgers were on that day. Big deal. Ancient history. These are two completely different teams that will be matching up in Corvallis on Saturday. 1. This won’t be Oregon State QB Sean Mannion’s first career start in a hostile...

Five pressing questions and answers on OSU-UW

CORVALLIS -- Has Sean Mannion really and substantially improved from last year? Can the OSU rushing attack avoid (another) face plant against Wisconsin? Can the defensive line hold up against a vaunted Badgers' running game and their Heisman Trophy candidate? Will the Oregon State secondary go big or bust vs. Wisconsin? Our man on the ground in Corvallis delves into those matters...

O'Brien has already earned Badgers' respect

MADISON, Wis. Five months of hype built to a crescendo on Saturday when Danny O'Brien finally took the field for his first quarterback start at the University of Wisconsin. By then, he'd answered only some questions, inevitably outperforming three less experienced signal callers in fall camp to earn the Badgers' starting nod. Still, other questions persisted that wouldn...

Wisconsin at Oregon State Week 2 College Football Preview

Thanks to Hurricanes Isaac, the Beavers were unable to compete last weekend at home in their scheduled opener against Nicholls State. Instead, they have to stay focused and avoid any rust in Corvallis as they take on a Badgers offense that struggled a bit in their home opener. Going on the road to face Mike Riley is never an easy task, but Oregon State is capable of just that according...

The Brain Trust: This Isn't Last Year's Beavers, Be Warned

If you're expecting to see the same team you saw at Camp Randall in week 2 last week tomorrow, you my friend are in for a surprise. Wait? What? They haven't played a single game this season, how do you know that? It's simple math. Last season the Beavers had 24 players who've never experienced college football playing huge minutes, including 10 freshman. If...
