The Sports Bank:
Illinois (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten) is off to its best start since the 1951 National Title team went 7-0.
The Hoosiers (1-5, 0-2) lost their third in a row, have not beaten a Football Bowl Subdivision team this season and lost 13 consecutive against the Top 25 since a 31-28 victory over then #13 Iowa Hawkeyes on Oct. 14, 2006.
But that doesn’t tell the whole story. Illinois essentially spotted Indiana 10 points today, and seemed to be down double digits right after getting off the bus. They also had far inferior special teams to IU today, and that 41-20 final score wasn’t very indicative of how solidly Illinois beat them, or at least how solidly Illinois should have defeated them.
A.J. Jenkins yet again made his case for the Biletnikoff and Big Ten Silver football awards with another monster performance 6 catches for 183 yards, and two long TDs. QB Nathan Scheelhaase had another efficient day, going 12-21 for 211 yards, 3 TDs, no picks. He also led the team in rushing, getting 95 yards on ...

Ron Zook may have Illinois 6-0 on the season, but that doesn’t mean he’s not the same Ron Zook we love to mock. After Illinois scored a touchdown to go up 20-13 Saturday in the second quarter against Indiana, Zook elected to go for two. A simple extra point would have put his team up [...]
People have questions marks about the Illini safeties. And that’s understandable. However, their corners are looking pretty solid.
University of Illinois senior Tavon Wilson was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Fighting Illini improve to 6-0 with a 41-20 victory at the Indiana Hoosiers this past Saturday.
Wilson returned a fumble 66 yards for...
Illinois coach Ron Zook has been the butt of jokes the past couple years thanks to his team's lack of success. And now that the Illini are 6-0 — one win away from matching the 1951 for the best start in school history — Zook still can't get out of his own way.
During 41-20 win over Indiana, Zook made a play-calling gaffe that, while it didn't directly affect the outcome...
Even in Illinois’ 41-20 win over Indiana, coach Ron Zook was, well, Ron Zook. Which is why we love him. (not to mention this featured image of Zook is amazing; seriously scary stuff right there.) After falling behind to the Hoosiers early, the Illini battled back to take a 20-13 lead midway through the second…
Reason #2846 why the Zooker is a national treasure:
Why did Illinois go for two after scoring a touchdown Saturday that put it ahead 20-13 with 7:18 left in the second quarter?
Because coach Ron Zook, who tells his players to keep playing and not worry about the score, took his own advice too literally and was so immersed in the game that he didn’t know the score.
Illinois DB Tavon Wilson was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and National Defensive Performer of the Week after a big game in Saturday's win at Indiana.
The Fighting Illini defensive line has been playing much better than most expected preseason. Boundary defenders Whitney Mercilus and Michael Buchanan are getting much of the credit, but the stingy defense against the run is tackle Akeem Spence's domain. He is proving his outstanding freshman season is no fluke.
Nathan Scheelhaase and A.J. Jenkins hooked up on two long TD passes to lead No. 19 Illinois to a 41-20 victory Saturday at Indiana.
Illinois cornerback Tavon Wilson earned the Big Ten defensive player of the week for his outstanding performance Saturday against Indiana.
Postgame quotes from Illinois head coach Ron Zook following No. 19 Illinois' 41-20 win over Indiana.
Illinois' Nathan Scheelhaase and A.J. Jenkins made Indiana pay for its mistakes Saturday.
The Fighting Illini football team is always looking for top cornerbacks. The great ones are hard to find and harder to recruit. One of the talented corners on their list for 2012 is Floridian Ezra Robinson. He intends to make an official visit to the Illini later in the year.
