As part of the feature, Dispatch reporter Todd Jones wrote:
Tressel doesn’t play golf much — about nine holes a year — but warns Ellen that she better be prepared to lose to him someday.
“He says that within two years of getting fired here he’s going to beat me in golf, so it is paramount to him that he comes out on top — in everything,” she said.
On July 26, 2009, after noting then-Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s “sudden urge to take up golf,” now-former Ohio State football coach Tressel said of the ancient game to Doug Lesmerises of CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER:
“If I went out and golfed, I wouldn’t know why I hit it in the woods. So you have to know why what happened, happened. Or why you did what you did. And the only way to develop that is through experience.”
