If you like throwback football then you'll love what's coming up today on our Big Ten Top 25 Players countdown that's for sure!
Northwestern football is under a huge renaissance, in fact they are dangerously close to becoming the glory years of Wildcats football. Gone are the days of "Lake the Posts" being a chant because of any win, replaced by "Lake the Posts" hoping to be celebrating a Big Ten championship and not being a pipe dream.
While head coach Pat Fitzgerald has a lot to do with said renaissance, so to does our No. 14 player, but before we get there don't forget to check out the 2nd leading active rusher in the NCAA, James White, who checked in at No. 15 yesterday.
Now on to perhaps the best all-around player in the Big Ten.
No. 14: Kain Colter (QB, Northwestern)
2012 Stats/Honors: Passing - 67.8% comp. rate, 872 yards, 8TD's/4INT's, 129.3 passer efficiency; Rushing - 894 yards, 5.3avg., 12TD's; Receiving - 16 receptions, 169 yards, 10.6avg.; Honorable Mention All-Big Ten
What makes him worthy: Do we really need to say much more than the stats above? After all those numbers should speak for themselves. However, we can and will wax poetic about a player that simply personifies "doing what's best for the team."
I mean, the guy was in on nearly every play from the line of scrimmage last season for the Wildcats totaling 1,935 yards of offense on his own, including 20 total TD's. That's just last season alone. In fact, the only numbers that didn't increase for Colter last season were the receiving numbers because he played quarterback more and receiver less this past season.
Hell, the guy enters 2013 ranking 5th on the all-time rushing TD list in Northwestern history. He plays hurt, he runs routes over the middle, and he isn't afraid to take a hit in the running game either. For my money he may actually be the most complete QB in the conference (and yes, that includes the almighty Braxton Miller), it's just that he's not behind center on a full-time basis to show off those kind of skills.
Any more words may not do him justice, so we'll let the video speak for itself.
