Harris has record-breaking day

Montel Harris broke the school single game rushing mark with 264 yards and touchdown mark with five scores. The previous single game rushing mark was set by Phil Bennett in 1972 with 253. The last time a BC player ran for four touchdowns was Darnell Campbell in 1993. Harris already has 10 touchdowns on the season with five games remaining on the schedule. Harris showed impeccable balance and vision, busting through the Wolpack defense for several long bursts. Spaziani said of Harris, “he floats like that hockey puck in air hockey.” Hats off to the offensive line today as they turned out their best performance of the year as well.

Wildcat a success

BC ran the “wildcat” formation four times today for 140 yards. Each time Harris took the snap, faked to Gunnell as he came around the end and took it off the left side. He busted for a career long 70 yards on the first play. He also had runs of five, 46, and a 29 yard touchdown in this formation. It’s fair to say that the BC staff saw an opportunity there and exploited it to perfection.

Larmond stretches the field

At this point it is very obvious that Colin Larmond Jr. is the best receiver on the team. He has had three straight games with a catch of at least 48 yards and has scored three touchdowns in the last four games. His 59-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter came on an under thrown ball by Shinskie. Larmond made a great adjustment and simply out-muscled the defender. He is fast and physical and will continue to be a force as long as Shinskie can deliver him the ball downfield.

Defensive blitz packages

BC employed a very effective blitz scheme early on in the first quarter. They pressured Russell Wilson and Bowman managed to bring him down on a delayed safety blitz. However, the defense quickly switched to using stunts and zone blitzes, which were not nearly as successful. Our defensive line is not nearly athletic enough to be able to drop into coverage. I lost track of how many times Austin Giles was dropping into coverage. This strategy did work on occasion, Alex Albright even managed to break up a pass in the back of the end zone. But more often then not, BC was left rushing three with little to no pressure on the quarterback.

Eagles perfect at home

Boston College improves to 5-0 at Alumni Stadium this season. They have averaged 39 points a game at home but just 10.5 on the road this season. BC has three of their remaining five games on the road (at Notre Dame, at Virginia, and at Maryland) so it will be interesting to see if this trend continues or not.
