The Mets have avoided making a tough decision by making an easy move that just satisfies the roster temporarily. The Mets have sent Nick Evans down to make room for Gary Sheffield, Evans was scheduled to be sent down on April 11th to make room for Livan Hernandez anyway. So really all the Mets have done is stalled, by next week they need to decide who has to go. They could carry one less reliever by returning Darren O'Day to the Angels or sending down Bobby Parnell who has options ( highly unlikely). Or they can either release Marlon Anderson or send Jeremy Reed down who also has options. Rosters have to be in before tonight's game and for now the opening day roster is set......As expected, the Mets sent prospect Nick Evans to Triple-A Buffalo this afternoon to make room for Gary Sheffield on the Opening Day roster. source NY Post

The Nine lives of Marlon Anderson....
With the acquisition of Gary Sheffield the logical odd man out should be Marlon Anderson, the Mets could delay that decision for a week by demoting Nick Evans to start the season and then figure out who needs to go when they call up Livan Hernandez. But when ever it happens Marlon should be the one to go, however; there are some rumblings that Marlon could be saved once again......

Midday: Lots to follow as clubs finalize rosters
Bodies are shaking loose all over the place, but one player who doesn’t appear to be changing sides is Andruw Jones, who has secured the fifth outfielder job in Texas. Meanwhile, Gary Sheffield will meet with Dusty Baker and the Reds today. There isn’t a great fit for Sheffield in Cincy, but from where I’m sitting (and you don’t want to be sitting where I’m sitting; trust...

Could it have been scripted any better....
The Mets won their opening game of the 2009 season and it couldn't have been scripted any better. It's true they stranded 11 runners but the conditions weren't idea for hitting and while I'm sure it wasn't planned this way it did test the bullpen.Johan Santana pitched 5 2/3 innings in which he allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out seven. Manuel could...
Sheffield
I was going to try to give my mangled right hand one more day off, but the Mets signing of Gary Sheffield is something to which I just had to contribute my two cents.
I have my concerns about this signing, but not for the reason that many media types have jumped on, that Sheffield is some sort of clubhouse cancer. The truth is that he is a guy that plays hard every day and gets...
Shef makes Wright uneasy......
It's been well documented by now that David Wright reached out to Gary Sheffield to convince him to become a Met and it was those text messages from "the face of the franchise" that swayed Shef to Flushing over several other cities, including division rival Philly....But what would motivate Wright one of the leagues poster children for political correctness to reach...
